Thread rolling is a cold forging process that can be performed on ductile metals. Rotating hardened steel dies are pressed against the surface of a cylindrical blank. As the blank rolls against the threads of the in-feeding dies, the material is displaced to form the root of the thread and the displaced material flows radially outward to form the crest of the thread. This produces strong, precise threads. For many projects, thread rolling is the ideal way to create custom solutions with improved strength and fatigue resistance.
