Recently, a manufacturer approached us about a prosthetic foot they were designing and manufacturing. The company ran into an issue as they developed the screw thread component that was to act like an Achilles tendon (lowering and raising an individual’s heel).
Before coming to The PST Group, they worked with another medical OEM supplier, and their customers were complaining about the noise and a clicking feeling in their joints. These issues brought an unnecessary awareness of the prosthetic device to people around them.
To fix the problem, the manufacturer wanted a quieter, more comfortable solution for its clients. Ultimately, they turned to the PST Group for our medical manufacturing expertise.
The PST Solution
Although the manufacturer recognized their problem, they didn’t have a solution in mind. They had hit a road block, and weren’t sure what to do next.
PST engineers and production experts developed a fix: a custom screw thread that reduced noise and friction. Our experts tackled the project from the ground-up, recommending materials and designs before implementing the solution.
Throughout the project, we leveraged more than fifty years of screw design, thread grinding and precision tolerance to deliver a quality solution.
Our solution gave prosthetic device users with a more comfortable experience. Centerless grinding techniques made this quieter, so the prosthetic foot was nearly invisible to those around the users, making both the manufacturer and the customers happier.
